A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth, held in place by the shape of your jaw, remaining teeth, or clasps. A complete denture replaces every tooth in the upper or lower jaw, while a partial denture fills the gaps left by a few missing teeth and clips on to the healthy ones. For patients who are not candidates for implants, or who want a solution that does not involve surgery, well-made dentures still do the job.
When to Consider
Expertise
At Millennium Smile Dental Clinic, dentures are fitted by Dr. Ameya Sonawane with unhurried appointments, because the difference between a denture that works and one that sits in a drawer is almost entirely in the fit. Impressions are taken more than once for complete dentures so the base sits stable on the gum ridge, and the bite is checked with the denture in the mouth, not only on the model. Where a patient is between implants and a denture, both options are laid out honestly with real costs, real timelines, and real limitations, and the choice is left to the patient rather than pushed one way.
Procedure
Examination of remaining teeth, gum ridge, and bite. Any extractions needed are planned first.
Preliminary impressions of the upper and lower jaws are taken to make custom trays.
Precise impressions on the custom trays capture the exact shape of your gums. The bite relationship is recorded.
A wax version of the denture is tried in your mouth so the tooth position, shade, and lip support can be checked before the final one is made.
The finished denture is fitted, adjusted for comfort, and you leave with clear instructions on wearing and cleaning it.
Short follow-up visits over the first month adjust any sore spots as the gums settle around the new denture.
Benefits
Cost
Complete dentures at Millennium Smile Dental Clinic typically start from around 15,000 rupees per arch and vary based on the acrylic or flexible material used. Partial dentures are priced by the number of teeth being replaced and the type of clasp. Implant-supported dentures, which clip on to two or four implants for a much more stable fit, sit in a higher bracket and are quoted separately after examination.
Aftercare
These are general aftercare notes and not a substitute for the specific instructions given at your appointment.
Suitability
A denture is right for patients missing several or all teeth in an arch, who want a non-surgical solution or a lower up-front cost than implants. If long-term stability and biting strength matter more, an implant-supported denture or a full set of implants is worth considering. Common Questions
A partial denture replaces a few missing teeth and clips on to the remaining natural teeth, while a complete denture replaces every tooth in an upper or lower jaw and rests on the gum ridge. The clinical planning is different for each.
Well-made dentures typically last 5 to 8 years before the fit needs to be relined or the denture replaced, because the gum ridge changes shape slowly over time.
A well-designed denture is not obvious in everyday conversation. Tooth shade, size, and lip support are all planned so the smile looks natural rather than uniform.
Most foods are fine after the initial adjustment period. Very hard or sticky items take practice, and cutting food into smaller pieces helps.
For patients who want a much more stable fit without moving to full fixed implants, yes. A denture that clips on to two or four implants stops the rocking that many complete-denture wearers deal with.
