Faqs

Faqs

Ape and human teeth have the same shape

From a very early age, we are encouraged to ask questions (Faqs) – to parents, to teachers, to coaches. This same principle is to be applied to us, the dentists. The Dentist’s office is a place of curiosity.

Asking questions is an important part of your dental visit and overall healthcare. It allows us to cater to your individual problems and face them head-on. Here are some of the most common questions we receive:

How often should I visit a dentist?

To keep your teeth and gums healthy, it is important to schedule regular checkups and dental cleanings. IDA advises adult patients to visit the dentist at least once every six months.

Regular dental cleanings remove stains and plaque buildup, preventing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. If you experience a sudden onset of pain in your teeth or gums, immediately book an appointment with your local dentist.

Millennium Smile Clinic will evaluate the problem and recommend the appropriate oral treatments for your case.

Which toothpaste should I use?

Many dentists will tell you that the way you brush is more important than the toothpaste you use. We believe that it is all important, but that different products work better for different people. During your initial oral wellness exam, we can suggest several toothpaste options for you to try, depending on your overall oral health

What are early signs of dental trouble?

Visit a dentist if you have any of these issues or see your child having trouble chewing or complaining of soreness:

  1. Mouth sores
  2. Jaw pain
  3. Redness
  4. Swollen face or
  5. gums
  6. Tooth Sensitivity
  7. Broken teeth
  8. Dry mouth
  9. Bleeding gums
  10. Bad breath or a bad taste in your mouth

Getting checked out right away to prevent more serious problems and infections.

Why do I need Dental X-Rays?

At Millennium Smile Clinic we will take a full set of dental X-rays early into the doctor-patient relationship. X-rays help us monitor any changes that could be happening in your teeth between appointments.

Most adult patients have bitewing X-rays every year. Our clinic provides in-house X-Rays with our own X-Ray machine. We can take the X-Ray during your first consultation visit.

Why do I need Dental Exams?

Regular exams help spot trouble early to prevent bigger and more costly treatments later.

Our Dentist will start by cleaning the buildup from your teeth. Then the Senior dentist will probe spots on the surfaces and near the gumline with special tools. If it’s been a while between appointments, you may have some sore and sensitive areas.

How can I prevent Cavities?

Cavities are permanent small holes that develop on the hard surface of your teeth. Tooth decay is associated with a variety of factors, including your dietary choices and dental hygiene routine.

Regular teeth cleanings and checkups by our dentist also support proper oral and dental hygiene, especially when combined with fluoride treatment. To minimize acid-producing bacteria that attack your tooth enamel, drink fluoridated tap water and maintain a well-balanced diet that is low in sugary or starchy foods and acidic beverages.

Why does my mouth feel dry?

Dry mouth can be a symptom of many different problems and can happen as you get older. Quite often it is a side effect of medication – especially heart, blood pressure, and depression tablets.

Are Dental X-rays safe and needed?

Our experts will set limits for your safety. Our dentist will take as few as possible. Sometimes we may recommend X-rays to diagnose a special problem. Advancements in technology mean today’s digital X-rays release much less radiation and are safer than in the past.

Why is Flossing important?

Flossing is essential to your smile’s health. Regular use of dental floss is important for plaque removal, maintaining healthy gums, and preventing periodontal disease. By removing food particles and bacteria that build up between teeth, flossing helps keep your smile healthy and beautiful for life.

I have sensitive teeth. How do I fix this?

You can try using toothpaste specifically designed for sensitive teeth. Rub a little toothpaste into the sensitive area when going to bed as it helps protect the surface.

How do I get whiter teeth?

There are a variety of ways to make your teeth whiter, whether it be a professional dental treatment or over-the-counter (OTC) treatment. To get the best results, talk with our dentist about the option that is right for you.

How do I practice oral hygiene at home?

Aside from the obvious – brush twice a day for 2-3 mins each time– here are some steps you can take for great dental wellbeing

A. Floss daily

B. Use mouthwash daily

C. Use products that contain fluoride

D. Eat a balanced diet of fruits and vegetables while limiting your intake of high-sugar snacks

E. Drink plenty of water

F. Avoid tobacco

Are sweets and ice really bad for my teeth?

Yes, sweets and foods with acid, like candy and soda, could stick to teeth and lead to cavities. Smoking and chewing tobacco can cause oral cancer and gum disease. Biting your nails is another bad habit. It pulls your jaw out of position and changes how your teeth fit together.

Should I be using mouthwash?

While mouthwash is not a substitute for flossing or brushing, it can be a great addition to your oral health routine. Using a mouthwash that contains fluoride can help prevent tooth decay by killing bacteria that live on the surfaces of your teeth.

Should I see the dentist even if I don’t have any symptoms?

Even if you do not have any symptoms, it is still important to schedule regular dental checkups to identify minor issues before they develop into larger problems.
